Dr Nguyen Thanh Liem is a HAIVN project officer based in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). He joined the project in 2008. Dr. Nguyen graduated from University of Medicine and Pharmacy in HCMC in 1988 as Doctor of Medicine specializing in General Internal Medicine including Internal, Pediatrics, and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Liem worked at Binh Thanh District Health Center in HCMC from 1989 to 2008 in different positions, including Head of Ward Health Care, Chief of Mental Illness Department of District Health Center, Chief of District TB program, Chief of Information and Education and Communication (IEC) program at Binh Thanh district, and as an AIDS responsible person and Tobacco Harm Reduction Program Officer, and Chief of Binh Thanh district HIV Out Patient Clinic.
In 1999 Dr. Nguyen graduated as a specialist grade 1 in Psychology at the University for Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City, and two years later, he was certified as a specialist in TB and Lung diseases by the University for Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City. Dr. Nguyen also has taken many training courses on HIV/AIDS prevention, counseling, care and treatment not only in Vietnam but in Thailand and Australia as well. With his extensive experience of HIV/AIDS care and treatment, he wishes to provide training and technical assistance for other health care providers in Vietnam so that more HIV/AIDS patients can have access to better care and treatment.
