PEPFAR Program Evaluation/Quality Assurance

Lisa Cosimihas over 15 years of experience in the care and treatment of HIV patients and 7years of experience working in Vietnam. As the first medical director for HAIVN (formerly the Vietnam CDCHarvard Medical School AIDS Program) she designed a modular curriculum on theprevention, care, treatment and support of patients with HIV; organized and ledtrainings for Vietnamese physicians and nurses based on this curriculum;provided daily consultation and teaching at the Vietnam National Institute forClinical Research in Tropical Medicine and worked closely with CDC GAP Vietnamin development of clinical programs and research projects.

In her role as the Deputy Director for Programs at CDC GAP,Hanoi, Vietnam, she was responsible for leading the design, implementation andmonitoring of CDC supported HIV care & treatment services for adults andpediatrics as well as prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT)programs in 40 provinces.  She served ashead of the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)Care & Treatment technical working group in Vietnam and led thecoordination of U.S. organizations in Vietnam to design and scale up the U.S.supported antiretroviral therapy program. She worked closely with the Vietnam Ministry of Health in the coordinationand implementation of ART scale up, the design of National protocols foranti-retroviral therapy, PMTCT, the treatment of TB/HIV co-infection, and inthe design and analysis of the first outcomes evaluation of clinics providingHIV care & treatment in 5 provinces. Lisa now resides in Boston, MA where she heads HAIVN’s effort on programevaluation and quality improvement.
