Dr. Doanh Lu is a VCHAP Medical Officer based in Ho Chi Minh City. She joined the project in 2006. She also holds a faculty position in the Division of General Medicine and Primary Care at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Dr. Lu received her bachelor degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge and her medical degree from University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts. She went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at University of Arizona and affiliated hospitals. She received fellowship training in infectious diseases at the University of Southern California-Los Angeles County Hospital. Her fellowship had strong emphasis on tropical diseases and HIV infection. Dr. Lu was raised in the Mekong delta in South Vietnam before leaving with her family for the United States. After completing her training, she wanted to return to Vietnam to help with the fight against HIV. Dr. Lu is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. Her previous publications include work on acute lymphocytic leukemia, community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and a book chapter on anthrax. She is also a member of the World Health Ambassador, which is an international volunteer group to provide medical/dental care to underserved population, and had participated in several missions in Cambodia and Vietnam. |
